Andrew Buchanan

Andrew is a communications and media consultant based in Sydney. If that sounds dull, you haven’t yet had the pleasure of meeting and hearing this amusing, erudite and charming communications expert.

Andrew has had more than 25 years in broadcasting as an announcer and journalist on radio and television with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, including leadership of the 60 local radio stations around Australia. The highlight of this role was his interaction with regional and rural audiences nationally and his instigation of the Rural Woman of the Year Award in 1994. He was also General Manager of the ABC’s International Development area, leading training consultancies in Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and South Africa.

Andrew initially worked in commercial radio and television before joining the ABC in Rockhampton.

He has special expertise in staff motivation and facilitating corporate change..

At the beginning of 1998 Andrew founded AB Communicates, a consultancy offering broad assistance for both individuals and organisations in communications of all kinds.. Skills in public speaking, presentation and utilization of the media are highlighted, including management mentoring/coaching/counselling.

A recent major project has been as CEO and a Director of Group Training Australia, a national peak body representing the interests of 120 Group Training Companies providing employment and training to 40,000 apprentices and trainees in 200 locations around Australia.

Andrew is married to Kate, a passionate Queenslander, who is a practising physiotherapist. They have two daughters, Georgia & Meg, both of whom are university graduates in the fields of physiotherapy and commerce respectively.
